Text Box: In 2003, Bermuda made its first appearance at the NatWest Island Games in Guernsey. Ninety (90) athletes competed in nine (9) different sports, what at the time was the largest team that had ever traveled abroad to represent Bermuda at any one event.
Two years later, in the summer of 2005, one hundred and forty (140) athletes represented Bermuda in twelve (12) different sports in the Shetland and Gibraltar Games.
With the 2007 Rhodes Island Games quickly approaching, close to three hundred (300) of Bermuda's participants are preparing themselves to represent Bermuda in 14 different sports: Archery; Athletics; Basketball; Cycling; Football; Golf; Sailing; Swimming; Tennis; Triathlon; and Volleyball. Bermuda's Gymnasts will also travel to Isle of Man in a sub Games; with Badminton players traveling to Greenland, and Squash players traveling to Guernsey for their competitions.
The Bermuda Island Games Association would like to continue to form partnerships with Bermuda's corporate community for the biennial Games. Our intension is to raise as much of the funding as possible for Bermuda's athletes to compete at the 2007 Games. We are asking international and local businesses for their help and support in sponsoring one or more athletes.
We feel that this is a unique way for Bermuda's athletes and businesses to join together and produce a very positive image of our community and the teamwork within it.
